      Course overview


      During this five-week course, we will be collaborating to identify key issues, engaging in discussions and asking questions. We will be focusing on the following:

        • the syllabus and key content for teaching
        • the Cambridge approach to teaching and learning
        • understanding the syllabus aims and assessment objectives and learning outcomes
        • reflecting on a range of teaching approaches, and how to use these in planning

      Before you start the course, you should familiarise yourself with what to expect in the course and how to make the most of your time. If you are new to online learning, take a couple of minutes to read our guide to What is online learning? to find out how to make the most of your time on this course.

      Course timings

      This course starts on Monday. You can view all of the course content now, but you will only be able to access the discussions on the scheduled day from 00:05 UTC*.  You can access the content by using the buttons on the left-hand side of the screen. This is a busy course. To ensure that it runs smoothly, please keep to the timetable.

      * Coordinated Universal Time (or UTC) is the time standard used globally. You can use this time and date converter to work out how UTC relates to your local time.

      Course discussions

      Over the next five weeks, conversations will take place in whole class and small group discussion forums. You will find separate discussion forums for each of the key theme(s) of that week. These discussions will help you develop your understanding and share ideas and experiences.  They are a vital aspect of the course and you are expected to contribute regularly.

      The Course café is where I will contact you with information such as course deadlines, new materials or urgent messages and where I will post the list of groups. The café is also for general discussions about the course, your teaching or any other subject that you want to talk about. You can access the Course café and discussion forums from the sidebar.

      We recommend that you check the forums every day to make sure that you keep up with the discussions. 

      The use of AI in online professional development courses

      Cambridge recognises the developing role of AI tools in education and their responsible use.

      On our professional development courses, please ensure you abide by the following guidelines:

      1. No Cambridge Assessment International Education course content or materials should be submitted to generative AI tools without explicit permission from the intellectual property owner. This includes, but is not limited to syllabuses, course content, past papers, schemes of work, mark schemes and candidate answers.

      2. If you use AI tools to support your engagement in your course, please do this in line with the principles of academic honesty and plagiarism.

        All work in the course should be based on your own thinking and ideas. We welcome the use of AI when it helps you to articulate or develop your thinking and ideas.


      Course completion

      Reflection is key to effective learning and relating knowledge to your experience. Each lesson has questions to help you reflect on what you learned and how it relates to your teaching experience. To complete the course and receive your certificate, you must fully participate in the collaborative activities throughout the course. 

      The course checklist in the sidebar shows your progress throughout the course. You are not expected to be online at particular times of the day, but you must complete the activities within the week they are set. Failure to do this will mean these activities will not be marked as complete.

      Note: If you are going to be absent from the course for more than 5 days or cannot continue with the course, contact your tutor.

      Your certificate

      You will receive a certificate at the end of the course provided you meet the following criteria: 

      • A certificate of participation is awarded to participants who complete some of the tasks on the course to a satisfactory level.
      • A certificate of completion is awarded to participants who complete all the tasks on the course to a satisfactory level.

      Moodle app
