Give learners a selection of topics. Ask them to write two paragraphs on the same topic but aimed at different types of audiences, e.g. a diary entry and a witness statement. (I)

Learners read their texts aloud to the class, who try to identify the style/context/audience of each text.

Learners transform style/register of other short texts to adapt them for a different audience/context, e.g. change an email to a formal letter.

Use Submit and compare and ask learners to submit their version of one/more of their texts and discuss any differences.

NOTE - no actual content for this example currently - can we make use of existing ECR items?
