How to complete the course:

To successfully complete the course and receive a certificate, you must take part in the required activities. These are clearly marked in each lesson and linked to the learning outcomes for that week.

Your tutor will share deadlines for each activity. Please note:

  • Group activities must be completed on time to support your colleagues’ learning.
  • Late submissions may not be marked as complete unless agreed with your tutor.

Tracking your progress

Use the progress bar on the course homepage to see how much of the course you have completed.
Quick links below the progress bar allow you to jump to specific activity types.

Tip: Check your notifications and emails regularly to stay up to date.

Certificates:

Copy of a certificate of completionYou will receive a certificate at the end of the course, provided you meet one of the following criteria: 

  • Certificate of participation - for completing some tasks to a satisfactory level.
  • Certificate of completion - for completing all required tasks to a satisfactory level.
What is online learning?:

You may have already read the What is online learning? guide provided in your joining instructions. 

The guide introduces the Cambridge approach to online learning and what to expect from your course.

If you are new to online learning or need a reminder, ensure you read the guide.

Navigating the course:

Your course is organised into a series of lessons and can be accessed via the tiles on the course homepage.

Each tile shows the estimated time to complete the lesson and the number of each activity type in the lesson.

On the right-hand side of the homepage, you will find:

  • Quick links to tools such as your journal and forums
  • Activity icons to jump to specific tasks
  • Upcoming events – deadlines for key activities

Take a few minutes to explore the homepage before you begin.

Setting up your profile:

Before you begin, check your profile and notification settings. This helps your tutor and colleagues get to know you and ensures you receive important updates.

You can:

  • Add a photo or image that represents you
  • Share your teaching context (subjects, school, country)
  • Adjust your email and forum notification preferences
Note: Certificates currently support Roman characters only. If your name includes other characters, they may not display correctly.

If you need help updating our your profile, visit the Help and Guidance section in the top menu bar.

Engaging with the course::

To get the most from this course:

  • Complete all activities
  • Participate in group discussions
  • Reflect on your learning in your journal
  • Give and receive feedback
  • Ask questions when you need support

Your tutor will:

  • Support your learning and answer questions
  • Monitor your progress and journal 
  • Provide feedback on your work
  • Join discussions 
Using the forums:

Discussion forums are a key part of your learning. You will use them to:

  • Share ideas and experiences
  • Respond to key questions
  • Give feedback to your peers

The Course Café is a space for general updates and informal conversation.

Using your journal:

Your journal is a private space to reflect on your learning. Only you, your tutor, and authorised Cambridge staff can view it.

Each lesson includes reflection prompts to help you:

  • Connect course content to your own teaching
  • Evaluate your progress
  • Plan how to apply new ideas

You can also use the journal to record thoughts, questions, or ideas at any time.

Need help? If you are not sure how to use the journal, go to the Help and support section in the top menu bar.

Planning your time:

Each lesson runs from Monday to Sunday. To stay on track:

  • Check the estimated time for each lesson
  • Use the suggested timings to plan your week
  • Keep an eye on deadlines in the upcoming events panel and notifications from your tutor in the Course Café.

Cambridge courses are asynchronous, meaning you can study at times that suit you. However, many activities—especially group discussions—depend on timely contributions from all participants.

Why timing matters:

You will be learning alongside teachers from around the world. Group discussions are designed to build on shared ideas and feedback. If you post late, your colleagues may have already moved on, and you could miss out on valuable interaction.

To get the most from your course—and to support your colleagues—please plan your time carefully and contribute within the scheduled week.

Course times are based on Coordinated Universal Time (or UTC) which is the time standard used globally. You can use time and date converter to check your local time.

Tutor support:

Your tutor is here to support your learning throughout the course.

  • For general questions or updates, use the Course Café—this is a shared space where tutors and participants can post informal messages and announcements.
  • For personal matters (e.g., extended absence, concerns about progress, or anything you’ would prefer to keep private), contact your tutor directly via private message on the platform.

Browser and device recommendations:

Our courses work best in a browser on desktop, mobile or tablet.

They are not yet compatible with the Moodle App. If your device prompts you to open the course in the app please ignore the request.

Editing your profile and notifications:

Edit your profile by:

  1. Clicking on your name in the top right hand corner of the page
  2. Select Preferences
  3. Select Edit profile

Use the Edit profile link to:

  • Provide some background information about yourself in the Description - location and work/career background would be useful and anything else you would like to tell us.

  • Upload a picture of yourself or another appropriate image - see the User picture section. Note: select an image in JPG or PNG format and if possible crop to a square of 100x100 pixels.

Please note: If your profile picture displays in a different orientation, then you will have to rotate the image and resave to your device before re-uploading.

Using your reflection journal:

Your journal is a private space to reflect on your learning. Only you, your tutor, and Cambridge staff can view it.

You can access your journal on the course homepage.

To add a journal entry:

  • Click New Reflective Journal post
  • Add your notes and reflections in the message space
  • Make sure you ‘Enable comments’ so your tutor can respond
Extended absence or withdrawing from the course:

We understand that sometimes it is not possible to complete a course in the timeframe or your circumstances may change and you are no longer able to participate in the course.

If you know you will be away from the course for more than 5 days, or if you need to withdraw, please contact your tutor as soon as possible. 

They can advise you on how to manage your participation, catch up on missed work, or formally withdraw if needed.

Why this matters:

Some tasks have deadlines, and group discussions rely on timely contributions. If you are away for an extended period, you may miss opportunities to complete the required activities or engage meaningfully with your colleagues. Letting your tutor know in advance helps ensure you stay supported.

Downloading content and certificates:
  • Use Ctrl+P (Windows) or Cmd+P (Mac) to print pages
  • Certificates are emailed to you and can also be accessed in your profile under My Certificates

Note: To amend the name that appears on your certificate, you must edit your name in your profile and then download your certificate.
