      Scope & Sequence

    • Introduction

    • This resource aims to support teachers in the scoping and sequencing of a teaching programme to improve teaching standards and learning outcomes. We have enhanced the content of our schemes of work by including additional advice and resources on pedagogical aspects which you can choose to incorporate into the scheme of work, or view as separate items. 

      The key areas of teaching and learning include:

      • Assessment for Learning (AfL) strategies at the beginning, middle and end of a learning progression.
      • Active learning and interleaving strategies to help learners think hard about things.
      • Metacognition and self-regulation strategies to help learners know what success looks like, and plan how to get there.


      To start, tick (✔)  what areas you would like to focus on and include in your scheme of work. You have the choice to view this on screen, or export/download as an editable Word doc, or PDF to either print or save.

    • To make this work, we need this to be as simple as possible, but it is really going to be:

      • Scheme of Work
        • Every single sub-section - selectable or not - somehow this needs to show/hide
        • BUT it can't be clickable or selectable if it shows/hides

      • I think the other sections (Professional Development, Other resources, Resource Plus, Testmaker actually gets automatically generated anyway - these are links to those sections.

      So here you can select/deselect individual sections of the SOW, but it is clunky as you've got both the ability to select with a checkbox, and click to reveal the contents.

    • If you choose everything, you get a document like this.
      If you deselect an item, that item doesn't get included. This potentially ends up extremely simple!

      Online option = webpage generated to view your selections - shows all of the options, but presented online.

      Word option = fully editable Word document allowing it to be downloaded and edited afterwards. Includes just the content you chose.

      .pdf option = as above, but exported as .pdf so less editable, but more portable
