Nature area

Children observing a ladybird  Child watering plants

If possible, provide an outside nature area. For example, a wildlife garden where plants grow freely to attract insects and other small animals, or a vegetable patch. Also provide access to resources for exploring the nature area. Include:

      • magnifying glasses
      • containers for finds
      • writing and drawing resources for recording and labelling finds
      • books and other resources that help children to identify their finds.

If outside space is limited, ensure that children have access to pot plants inside or outside, and natural items (e.g. leaves, seeds, shells), and nature books and stories.
