    Marking Standards - Component 2
  • Introduction

The aim of these standards is to help teachers understand what is expected of learners across the range of marks, with the purpose of supporting their teaching. They complement the Example Candidate Responses booklets, which contain detailed examiner comments, demonstrating how the mark scheme is typically applied by examiners.

The work published here was used to train Cambridge examiners at the marking standardisation meeting for the June 2023 series. They show the marks awarded to each assessment objective by the examiner. The question papers, mark schemes and pre-release materials this work relates to are all available on the School Support Hub under Examination Resources, along with a range of other support material under Teaching and Learning.

Extensive discussions take place at the standardisation meeting for each individual series before marking begins, considering the reasons why a particular mark has been given in line with the mark scheme and the standard set by the Principal Examiner. For this reason, Cambridge cannot enter into discussions about the marks given to these pieces of work which should be considered purely as teaching guidance.

While it may be helpful to show learners this material to help them understand the requirements, please remind them that candidates are not permitted to copy and submit another person’s work as if it were their own, as this will be treated as malpractice.
