    An architectural practice with the mission statement 'low impact living spaces in the natural environment' needs presentation material. They work to create dwelling places where humans can coexist with nature.

    Choose one of the following concepts to develop:

    • a series of digital paintings base on the theme
    • a photo-essay exploring coexistence.

    Your work should demonstrate how your research has informed your ideas. The work should also show your understanding of the intended audience and the concept. You should present this work with the final outcome.

    The candidate has responded to the assignment Coexist in a variety of formats including photography, digital editing, contextual studies, computer aided drawing, digital rendering. 

    The work contains thorough and careful preparatory studies, where the candidate is seen to refine and review their work as it develops. 

    The candidate has presented some interesting photography work representing concepts such as the landscape and the environment. The candidate takes the opportunity to raise ecological issues and celebrate natural beauty. This demonstrates a confident development of ideas with reference to the brief. 

    This work also develops ideas about patterns and resilience in natural forms. 

    The candidate describes their working process and reflects on their progress. 

    The final outcome provides a confident realisation of intentions without becoming overly complicated. The final page of the work demonstrates a highly effective visual illustration of a coexistence with nature. 

    Throughout the work, the candidate is in command of visual language and makes highly effective connections between design and digital elements.

  • Common errors and general guidance for candidates

    • Candidates are reminded that where they provide interesting evidence of exploration of media and development of ideas, marks will be deducted where the work was not subjected to sufficient critical review or testing.
    • Candidates should avoid the work becoming overly complicated and lacking in effectiveness. Such work will tend to get lower marks on AO4 where candidates can be awarded for realising their intentions.
    • Higher marks could be attracted by work containing original research and first-hand experience of buildings in natural environments.
