  • Introduction

    • The aim of this resource is to:

      • support teachers in conducting the Cambridge International AS Level Chinese 8238 Speaking test
      • demonstrate the role of the teacher/examiner and the structure of the Speaking test for examination from 2024.

      The videos in this resource are demonstrations only. The candidates and teachers volunteered to take part so that we could provide this support for our teachers. The tests were commented on by a Cambridge moderator. 

      Moderator comments highlight the strengths of the candidate and where they could make improvements. Grades and certificates were not given to any of the participants.

      Candidate: 中国的春节。

      Teacher/examiner: 请开始你的陈述。

      Candidate: 老师好！今天我想介绍春节。春节是中国传统节日之一，对中国人来说是最重要的节日。春节的时候，中国人会穿红色的衣服庆祝。因为这个节日又热闹又有意思，所以人们让高兴极了。春节有很多传统活动，比如说，放鞭炮还有给红包。虽然放鞭炮对环境不好，但是中国人还是很看重这个活动。我觉得孩子们是最开心的，因为他们会收到很多红包。除夕的时候中国人会吃年夜饭，比如，蔬菜，鸡肉和鱼。中国人会吃鱼因为他们想要年年有余。春节的时候家家户户都会有红色的装饰，又漂亮又喜庆。中国人最喜欢红色因为红色代表好运。我觉得中国传统文化不但博大精深，而且非常有趣。所以我将来想去中国亲身体验春节的热闹。谢谢。

      Teacher/examiner: 谢谢，非常好。好，现在我们来进行后续讨论。首先，为什么中国人觉得春节是最重要的传统节日？

      Candidate: 因为春节是新年的开端，所以家人们聚在一起去庆祝新年。除此以外，中国人几千年前就过春节了，所以这个节日历史悠久。

      Teacher/examiner: 非常好，那还想问一下，为什么小孩子要收红包呢？

      Candidate: 红包代表好运，所以老人想把好运送给孩子们，希望他们新的一年里健康快乐。除此以外，我觉得钱也是很好的礼物，因为你可以自己决定怎么花。

      Teacher/examiner: 非常好，非常有意思。你说到中国的年夜饭，中国年夜饭中国人吃鱼。除了吃鱼，还有什么其他的传统食物？

      Candidate: 除了鱼，中国人会吃年糕和饺子。中国人会吃饺子因为饺子看起来像金元宝，代表财富；他们也吃年糕，因为年糕代表一年比一年好。因为中国人想要好的一年，所以他们会吃这些好运的食物。

      Teacher/examiner: 非常好，你说得很对。中国人非常喜欢吃饺子,年糕还有鱼。那我想问一下，你觉得中国文化最有趣的地方是什么？

      Candidate: 我觉得中国文化最有趣的是传统节日，比如，中秋节和端午节。中秋节的时候，中国人一边吃月饼一边赏月。端午节的时候，中国人吃粽子，划龙舟，纪念屈原。因为，我觉得传统节日是最有趣的因为体验这些传统活动让我学习很多中国的文化。

      Teacher/examiner: 很有意思，你喜欢传统节日。你也刚刚说到放鞭炮，放鞭炮对中国人很重要，你怎么看这个问题？

      Candidate: 中国人一方面相信放鞭炮可以赶走不好的东西，另一方面，放鞭炮不但热闹，而且代表新年的到来。虽然，但是因为放鞭炮会带来空气污染，所以我觉得人们应该小放鞭炮。

      Teacher/examiner: 对，我同意，那你打算什么时候去中国体验春节？

      Candidate: 我想去中国明年春节。

      Teacher/examiner: 明年春节去中国。希望你真的可以去体验一下，好吗？好的，现在我们第一部分就结束了，现在进行第二部分，会话题卡，这是你的卡片。你在和一个朋友谈健康，有些人认为一定要运动才健康，你和你的朋友在谈论这一话题。现在，你有五分钟的时间准备你的题卡。如果需要的话，你可以在这张纸上做笔记，但是请不要写在会话题卡上面。好，那我们现在开始五分钟（计时）。

      Teacher/examiner: 还有两分钟。好，不好意思，对，时间到了。五分钟，好的，现在我们进行（这个）会话题卡，好吗？

      Candidate: 好

      Teacher/examiner: 首先，请问，经常运动有哪些好处？

      Candidate: 一个好处是一些运动很好玩儿，比如，篮球和足球。我也觉得常常运动让人们不但保持身体健康，而且保持心理健康。

      Teacher/examiner: 嗯，非常好，那做运动对你来说重要吗？为什么？

      Candidate: 我觉得做运动又重要又有意义。因为如果人们参加运动活动，他们就可以交新朋友。我也觉得压力大的时候如果人们做运动，他们就会放松，可以劳逸结合。

      Teacher/examiner: 非常好，你压力大的时候喜欢做什么运动？

      Candidate: 压力大的时候我喜欢跳舞。

      Teacher/examiner: 哦，很好，是跟朋友一起跳舞吗？

      Candidate: 我常常跟我妈妈一起去跳舞。

      Teacher/examiner: 非常棒。那第二个问题想请问，为什么有的人，比如说你的同学，他们不常常运动，为什么？

      Candidate: 虽然一些运动很好玩儿，但是因为人们都有不同的看法，所以一些运动很无聊，比如我不喜欢打乒乓球，但是我的朋友跟我不同意。我也觉得越来越多的人去健身房做运动。如果健身房离我的同学们的房子很远，他们就会不想去健身房做运动。

      Teacher/examiner: 哦，可能离得太远。有些运动可能像你说的很贵很麻烦，那你觉得呢？什么运动你觉得很贵或者很麻烦？

      Candidate: 我觉得因为学习怎么参加新运动比如羽毛球很难，所以人们不想参加这些运动。

      Teacher/examiner: 嗯，好的，一般来说，就是，大家对健康的生活方式有一些看法。我觉得饮食对一个人的健康很重要，你觉得呢？

      Candidate: 我觉得人们应该吃又健康又可口的食物， 我觉得平衡的生活方式是最健康的，因为运动太多或者吃得太少对你的身体和心理不好。

      Teacher/examiner: 很好很好，那你觉得还有什么别的方法来保持健康？

      Candidate: 我的建议是人们应该每个星期三次左右做自己喜欢的运动， 还吃三个美味的饭菜。 除了一日三餐，我也觉得长的睡觉很重要因为人们可以感觉很放松。

      Teacher/examiner: 啊，我同意，非常好。那你认为将来会有更多人做运动吗？为什么？

      Candidate: 我觉得，将来会有更多的人做运动因为参加新运动越来越容易，比如现在比以前，去健身房做运动更便宜。

      Teacher/examiner: 好的，那在你看来， 将来有什么运动会变得很流行？

      Candidate: 我觉得因为更多的人常常用手机和电脑， 所以我觉得电子竞技会更受欢迎。

      Teacher/examiner: 哇哦，这个很新，电子竞技，好的， 谢谢你，今天我们考试到这里就结束了，非常棒，非常棒，好的。

    • Moderator comments 

      Presentation, interaction/responsiveness

      The candidate is very confident when delivering her prepared presentation. She communicates detailed information with clearly stated ideas and opinions. The candidate is fully engaged in the conversation with good interaction. However, it would be better if some of the ideas and opinions could be justified, developed, or explained consistently throughout her presentation. 

      Language range 

      A range of linking and cohesive linguistic devices have been used to connect a series of mostly well-developed points. The candidate has used a range of vocabulary appropriate to the task with occasional use of less common vocabulary. There have been attempts to vary formulation, but some repetition is present. 

      Language accuracy

      The candidate has used some complex grammar, with occasional slips. The use of simple grammar is accurate. 


      Task completion and communication 

      The candidate completed all tasks fully and confidently with clear and supported ideas. The candidate could develop a justified argument and was fully engaged in the conversation. It would have been better if the candidate had talked a bit more about her own experience for the first question. 

      Language range

      The use of simple grammar was accurate and the candidate used some complex grammar, with occasional slips, for example, 三个饭菜，长的睡觉.

      The candidate’s pronunciation was intelligible, and the intonation was appropriate. Individual sounds were articulated clearly.
