  • Introduction

Welcome to the Cambridge Early Years Practitioner Guidance. This resource is designed to support the effective implementation of the Cambridge Early Years in your centre. We recommend that you familiarise yourself with the content ahead of implementation.

The content is split into five sections:

      • Overview of the Cambridge Early Years curriculum

An introduction to the design principles underpinning the curriculum, the developmental contexts, the different curriculum areas and progression in learning between stages.

      • Teaching and Learning approaches

Information on the teaching and learning approaches that best support the Cambridge Early Years Curriculum, including active learning, a play-based approach to learning and a multilingual approach. This is in addition to guidance on promoting speaking and listening and supporting the development of children’s self-regulation.

      • Planning

An overview of the planning approach for Cambridge Early Years, alongside support for a consistent and active approach to planning learning in the long-, medium- and short-term.

      • Learning environment

Guidance for creating a safe and inclusive learning environment, which meets the diverse needs of all children and makes connections to the wider community.

      • Assessment guidance

Guidance on effectively implementing the assessment approaches recommended for Cambridge Early Years.

The structure of this guide allows you to find, use and refer back to sections when they are relevant to you. We have also provided links to other elements of the Cambridge Early Years Programme on the left hand side and in the sections of this guide when we make reference to them.
