Resources that develop fine motor skills
Many resources in continuous provision areas will provide opportunities for children to develop fine motor skills, for example, blocks and other construction materials in the ‘Construction and small world play area’ and clothing fastenings in the ‘Role-play area’. Other examples include:
- pop-up books in the Library/reading area
- mechanical toys (e.g. toy cars with push-back wheels, wind-up toys, push-down and pop-up toys)
- dolls with clothes and other accessories
- stacking and hammering toys
- peg boards and pegs
- plastic bottles and pots with lids
- locks and keys.
