Long-term planning
Step 5: Note teaching and learning opportunities that are less closely related to your themes
Based on your findings from Step 4, note how you will cover curriculum learning statements that need more development and consolidation than is possible just through themed activities. Ensure that all the curriculum learning statements will be fully developed across the year and that children’s learning will progress smoothly.
Using the Cambridge Early Years Teaching and Learning Resources
The long-term plans in Step 2, already reflect the following from the Teaching Resource:
- all the Mathematics activities
- the Communication and Language activities that are less closely related to the themes.
You will need to add your own teaching and learning opportunities for:
- other learning statements that are are best developed, or further developed, with your children in a less themed way than the ‘Let’s Explore’ content
- learning statements for Literacy that you will address using your systematic phonics and handwriting resources.
